A new version of Requiem is available. This Requiem version can decrypt files from the latest iTunes version, so there is no need for a virtual machine anymore. All the other guides are obsolete. This method applies for both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Software Needed

1. iTunes 10.5.3.3 - To buy and download your Apple products
2. Requiem - To remove the Apple DRM
3. MediaInfo - It offers information about the video file
4. MKVmerge - For remuxing the decrypted file and stripping it of your user information
5. Java - Java is java

Working Method

1. Install iTunes 10.5.3.3 and disable automatic updates. (When a new version of iTunes comes out, don't update until you check to see if Requiem is updated to support that new version)

2. Unzip Requiem on your HDD.

3. Install Java.

4. Buy, download your episodes and close iTunes. Requiem will not work with iTunes on.

5. Start Requiem and watch it work. It will automatically find DRMed files in your iTunes library and remove the DRM from them. The original DRMed files will be moved to the trash.  Make sure you verify that the songs and videos still work before emptying the trash.

You can also drag & drop files or directories (which will be searched recursively) onto the Requiem application or the Requiem window.

Starting Requiem with the shift key down will disable scanning of the iTunes library. You can use this feature to start requiem with a blank window into which you can drag & drop files to be processed.

6. Install MediaInfo (or you can use the portable version). Open MediaInfo and load your decrypted *.m4v to see what audio tracks you have. If you are a more advanced user you don't need to do that, you'll recognize them in mkvmerge.

7. Install MKVmerge (or you can use the portable version). Open MKVmerge and do the following setting: File - Options and check "Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default" and press OK.

8. Load your decrypted *.m4v file in MKVmerge, set the language for video and audio track, choose the destination folder and press "Start muxing". Remove AAC2.0 if it has both AC-3 DD5.1 and AAC2.0. If you are keen on keeping AAC2.0 too, at least move it to the second position.

I've tested the latest Requiem version on the following operating systems: Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 32-bit and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 64-bit.

Alternative Guide ( Obsolete now )

Software needed:

1. VMware with Windows XP SP3.
2. iTunes + Requiem + java combo.
3. MKVmerge
4. The latest iTunes for buying from the store.
5. MediaInfo

Installation:

1. Install VMware and then install a Windows XP SP3 inside VMware.
2. Install iTunes + Requiem + java combo and MKVmerge inside your VMWare XP. Disable updates for iTunes.
3. Install the latest iTunes on your normal OS. For this one you don't have to disable updates.
4. Install MediaInfo, both on your PC and in VMware.

How to:

1. Open the latest iTunes on your pc and buy the movie/episode you want.

2. When it starts downloading, stop it. Don't delete the downloads, just stop them.

3. Open VMware, open iTunes, log in and let it download inside VMware.

4. Open requiem by clicking on the "Requiem.jar" executable and point it to where you have set your download location from iTunes settings and select the movie/episode you want to decrypt. You can set a location on your regular partition by enabling "Shared folders" in partition settings. Click for tutorial.

5. Press the "unlock" icon and wait (it's the fourth from the left ). The decryption takes 2-5 minutes. It will tell you when it finishes.

6. Open MediaInfo and load your decrypted *.mp4 to see what audio tracks you have. If you are a more advanced user you don't need to do that, you'll recognize them in mkvmerge.

7. Open MKVmerge and do the following setting: File - Options and check "Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default" and press OK.

8. Load your decrypted *.mp4 file in MKVmerge, set the language for video and audio track, choose the destination folder and press "Start muxing". Remove AAC2.0 if it has both AC-3 DD5.1 and AAC2.0. If you are keen on keeping AAC2.0 too, at least move it to the second position.

9. That's it. Enjoy!

Note: It seems that Apple is looking for accounts using older iTunes versions and locking them. I've made some tests and I found a way to decrypt the files using the latest iTunes version for downloading. Here's what you have to do:

Copy "requiem-keystore" from the "SC Info" folder from vmware to "SC Info" folder on your PC. It's a good idea to also backup your "requiem-keystore" file from vmware if you ever need it again ( software update, reinstall etc. ).

SC Info folder location:

Vista/Win 7: CrogramDataApple ComputeriTunesSC Info

XP: Cocuments and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataApple ComputeriTunesSC Info

Mac: /Users/Shared/SC Info/

Tested and working with iTunes 10.5.3.3 and requiem 1.8.10, the latest iTunes version at the moment this guide was written.
