What is the Scene?
The Scene is a collection of topsites, release groups that have certain rules of which all groups have to abide by in order to make sure they release the best quality files they can. It is possible for groups to get "scene banned" where they are then bared from releasing for various reasons. What most people see are Public trackers but there are also Private trackers and newsgroups to get files from.
General Scene Guidlines
Open - Anyone with enough technical or artistic skill can be a member of The Scene
Free - All content offered on the Scene must be free of charge and non-profit and art is generally reusable with permission
Groups - Individuals who make up the Scene may be members of one or many groups the point of which being that the promotion of work is unified; work published under one group name typically cannot be resubmitted under another
No Ripping! - It is unacceptable for a group or individual to take another group or individual's work and republish it as its own without explicit permission being given! Rippers are usually banned on sight.
Credit - Any sort of recode, rework, edit, manition or remix must also credit the author of the original, permission from the original author to publish the remix is also a good thing to get somewhere along the line
Respect - Skill is the only thing by which people are measured on the Scene; if you are sufficiently skilled you can get into any group you wish
Competition - Groups that form The Scene compete amongst each other, each wanting to prove they are better coders / artists than the other.
What is a Release Group
A releasegroup simply is a group of people which releases warez such as movies, games applications, or music on the internet. IRC is the group's medium to stay in contact with eachother. The size of a group varies, some groups have just 5 people, others maybe 20. Mostly the members of the group don't know eachother in real life. Trust is a highly important issue. Since the group's activities aren't legal, the teammembers have to be able to rely on eachother. If one member gets caught, the other ones are in big trouble too, so security has high priority. This means that for example they talk on private irc servers or through a bouncer, and they connect to their sites through proxy's.

Note: You may have all heard about aXXo
He releases alright quality movies but he doesn't follow any scene rules so he can't release onto the scene and thus all his files are only released on public trackers where the scene rules don't apply. So he isn't apart of the scene in the sense of rules and where he releases but is in the sense that he shares files. So one could say he is apart of the p2p scene. There is some controversy surrounding him because some people think he steals from other release groups but all evidence is speculative. An example of which is all his releases come out after there is a scene release. He pulled all of his torrents from ThePirateBay because of a RIAA/MPAA "conspiracy" that consisted of posting comments on his uploads saying that he just steals from the scene and that his rips weren't good quality. He didn't follow one of the main rules of the internet which is to ignore greifers and as a response he deleted all his torrents from TPB thus destroying all evidence of a "conspiracy" which TPB admins have denied. All the torrents he has pulled have been since reuploaded to TPB by other people.
How do release groups get DVDrips so fast?
They generally have a source who works at the place where they make the cd's and dvd's which then snags a defective disk from the trash bin that is perfectly fine except for the ink ran on it or something. This is also how stuff is released before it even goes on sale to. There are also some DVDrips that are really R5's and are mislabeled.
How do the Release Groups release TV shows so fast
A TV show coming out before it even airs the release groups record off of stations that are based in different countries or satellite tv which air the shows before it is aired in the U.S.
What is a .nfo file
A nfo file is a textfile with information about the release. The files are designed by ASCII artists and can be read with Damn NFO Viewer or simply with notepad. They contain release information like the runtime of a movie or an installation guide (if software).
What is a Pre feed/How do i get access to one?
A Pre Feed is a database on IRC that lists all the scene releases on the scene. These databases are kept so people know when things are released and for other release groups to know when they shouldn't upload a dupe file. Its not for me to say how to get access to one. I think there are some public pre feeds but I'm not sure.
How does the scene communicate?
They communicate over super secure IRC chat rooms. They have passworded rooms that they connect to via SSL and some of them also are encypted via an IRC program called FiSH. Which in order for you to see what people are talking about they have to have the same key that other people are using.
Why do scene groups care if people steal from them?
Its because of respect and honor among thieves. Yes the release groups are stealing from the movie, game, and music companies but they want the respect and honor that they get when they release it first and at good quality. If someone deletes there name and puts there own on it then how would they get that respect and honor? They wouldn't and there wouldn't be any reason for them to get that stuff. That is why there are strict rules about stealing and if any release group is caught doing so then they immediately get scene banned and any site that follows scene releases won't host there files.
Etichetele generale ale Scenei / General Scene Tags:
PROPER
Motivul pentru PROPER trebuie inclus in NFO.
[EN] Due to scene rules, whoever releases the first Telesync has won that race (for example). But if the quality of that release is fairly poor, or if another group has another telesync (or the same source in higher quality), then the tag PROPER is added to the folder to avoid it being duped. PROPER is the most subjective tag in the scene, and a lot of people will generally argue whether the PROPER is better than the original release. A lot of groups release PROPERS just out of desperation due to losing the race. A reason for the PROPER should always be included in the NFO.
INTERNAL
[EN] An internal release is done for several reasons. Classic DVD groups do a lot of INTERNAL releases, as they wont be dupe'd on it. Also, lower quality theater rips are done INTERNAL so not to lower the reputation of the group. Also, it can be labeled INTERNAL due to the amount of rips already released. An INTERNAL release is available as normal on the groups affiliate sites, but they can't be traded to other sites without request from the site ops. Some INTERNAL releases still trickle down to IRC/Newsgroups, it usually depends on the title and the pority. Earlier in the year people referred to Centropy going "internal". This meant the group was only releasing the movies to their members and site ops. This is in a different context to the usual definition.
REPACK
[EN] If a group releases a bad release, they will release a Repack which will fix the problems.
LIMITED
[EN] It refers generally to art movies that are played in less than 250 theaters, and mostly short ones.
Releasuri neacceptate de Scena / Bad releases:
NUKED
[EN] A release can be nuked for various reasons. Individual sites will nuke files for breaking their rules (such as "No Telesyncs", but if the release has something extremely wrong with it that makes it useless, then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits. Nuked releases can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but it's a good idea to check why it was nuked in the first case. If a group realizes there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.
DUPE
[EN] If something exists already, then theres no reason for it to exist again without proper reason. Usually the group releasing the DUPE will explain the reason for the release in the NFO.
