) Start > Run: gpedit.msc [Enter]

2) The "Group Policy" windows will pop up.
Then: Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows-components>Windows Update

3) Click on "No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Update installations"

4) Choose"Enabled" [OK]

5) Close the Group Policy window.


Disabling Auto-Restart in Windows XP Home Edition


Start - Run - Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SoftwarePolicies MicrosoftWindows WindowsUpdateAU

Change the “NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers” DWord value to the required number.

0 = False (Allow auto-reboot)
1 = True (Disallow auto-reboot)
