Acest tutorial este adresat persoanelor care doresc un plus de siguranta atunci cand se arunca in lumea tumultoasa a P2P-ului...urmati aceste sfaturi si veti avea o relatie buna cu tot ce inseamnca P2P

A little advice from someone that's been doing it for years, in many forms, on many nets:

1- Do a bit of investigation, and ask questions on forums BEFORE you jump into P2P.

2- Find out what things you can do to help make yourself safer from prying eyes like:

a- Use an IP blocking program like Protowall, Peer Guardian, SafePeer, or similar (there are many), and keep it up to date.

b- Use a good Software Firewall (ratings of these readily available on the net through Google), and/or a Hardware Router for Firewall protection (ratings of these readily available on the net through Google).

c- And this one is important; LEARN to use your new Software Firewall, and/or hardware Router PROFICIENTLY BEFORE you go trapsing through P2P.

3- Now this is the most important of all: USE YOUR HEAD FOR MORE THAN A HAMMER!!!  In other words, don't go bungling into P2P and get into a mess, and THEN ask a question.  There are plenty of users out there that have REAL experience.  Find one of those and ask a question.

Common sense is the best asset that you have.  USE IT!  If you want to be a "grownup", and play on the net, then act like one, and think things through BEFORE you do it.  And when you think you've got it all down, throw it all out and start over, because you're a day late, and the net changes daily, and doesn't wait for anyone!

I hope this will help someone with their quest into P2P land!

If you have questions about Software Firewalls, go here (Just a starting point):

IP BLOCKER PROGRAMS ARE NOT FIREWALLS, AND ARE NOT MEANT TO REPLACE YOUR SOFTWARE FIREWALL!

An IP Blocker will block Internet Addresses from the likes of RIAA and MPAA, and anyone else that has their IP Address listed in the Blocklist, so that they can't connect to you.  Say you are downloading a music torrent from this site, and someone that is a known spy for the RIAA trys to connect to you to download.  He's looking for your IP Address to add to his sh*t list, while pretending to be interested in downloading the music file.  If his IP Address is listed in the Blocklist (Known bad IP Addresses), the IP Blocker will block him from being able to connect to you so that he can't get YOUR IP Address.  At least that's the theory, as nothing is perfect.  Pretty neat huh?

There are a number of IP Blocker programs out there, and, to my knowledge, all are freeware.  The two that I have used, and can recommend are Protowall and Peer Guardian.  I currently use Protowall because, IN MY OPINION, it uses more types of protocols, uses less computer resources, and is more flexible.  Go read about them, and you decide which is best for you.

Here's a Partial list of IP Blockers, and where they can be found.  You decide which is for you:

Protowall (Use it with Blocklist Manager to update Blocklists):
Protowall:  http://www.bluetack.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=2
Blocklist Manager:  http://www.bluetack.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1

Peer Guardian:

SafePeer (An IP Blocker plugin for Azureus):
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/plugin_details.php?plugin=safepeer

There are many more, but these will get you started.  Try them all and see which one you like.  REMEMBER, read and investigate about each of these IP Blockers as to:

1- What they are, and what they do.

2- How to use it PROPERLY.

3- How to maintain the blocklist in each of them.  This is very important!

There is plenty of information out there on this subject.  GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND.  Use GOOGLE to find out more about this subject.  Do YOUR research, and investigate THOROUGHLY.  THEN, if you have questions about any of this, ask someone (usually in the program's own forum is good as there are experienced users there).
