In 1947, Seretse Khama, Botswana's heir to the throne, he meets in a bar, Ruth Williams, white employee in London and between them is love at first sight. A rousing and passionate love, which quickly pushes the two to convey. Ruth is fascinated by the stubborn will of Seretse to fight for a fairer world and decides the first moment to marry and share that same vision. Both perceive the need for change: Seretse sees new opportunities for its people following the weakening of the power of the British Empire, Ruth realizes the possibility of a ' greater life, more important in the women's movement for independence and equality. Despite being their one true love, their Union interracial encounters opposition not only by families, but also British and South African Governments. South Africa had been recently introduced the policy of apartheid and the idea of a couple interracial – that involves the future King of Botswana--is intolerable. The British Government strongly opposes this marriage due to South Africa's threats to deny access to resources of uranium and gold, and invade the Botswana. Seretse is thus forced into exile from his homeland and the separation from his beloved Ruth, who is to continue the pregnancy alone in Botswana, opposed by locals who see it as a threat to their country. Despite the terrible pressures from Governments, the link between Seretse and Ruth never wavers, but is the lifeblood for this battle: a battle in the name of love, equality and independence of an entire country!
