The album Burnin' the Ice, recorded in 1983 by the Berlin-based band Die Haut featuring Nick Cave, is being reissued on vinyl after a long period of unavailability. This work serves as a significant historical document of Cave's Berlin era, bridging the gap between the dissolution of The Birthday Party and the formation of The Bad Seeds. The music is characterized by an experimental and existential sound, fusing elements of post-punk, noise, blues, and jazz. The recording sessions took place at Studio Funk in Aachen; the band initially recorded instrumental tracks, after which Cave contributed vocals to four compositions (including Stow-a-Way and Truck Love), while the remaining tracks stayed instrumental.
The production involved drummer Thomas Wydler, who subsequently became a permanent member of The Bad Seeds. This reissue is curated by the Hit Thing label, led by Larry Mullins, and features new mastering by Doug Henderson. Pressed by Optimal, the release offers limited editions on crystal-clear vinyl (1,500 copies) and red vinyl (1,000 copies for the US market).
